Certificate Overview - Course Description

We will learn to build tools to use every day in Head Start programs. We're going to help you build something you can easily use every day to make important data in your program easier, clearer and more accessible to all.

The course introduces key concepts involving the use of data and teaches how to build roadmaps that guide data analysis projects. We focus on what is in front of you at your Head Start/Early Head Start program - real-world projects.

You will build an outline of a project to complete in your program with your actual data.
You will learn to tell stories about data through “stand-up meetings” and lightning talks. 5-minute quick formats that communicate ideas quickly and clearly.
Twice-weekly Zoom meetings will focus on understanding key concepts and on the practice of designing real-world projects.
Office hours during weeks 3 – 8 give you one-on-one time with your instructor to ask questions and get help if you need it.
Practical assignments in Excel, using several different kinds of Head Start data. These assignments have complete video walk-throughs and pdf documentation with detailed screenshots of required steps.

Participants should be somewhat comfortable using Excel on a daily basis prior to the start of the course. This means that you currently (or previously) have used it to store, track, or manipulate data.

The overall experience is FUN, interesting, and makes you a hero back at your program! Think of your peers saying "whoa - I can't believe we have this now!" when they see the tools you've made!
